Today we have videos!

From Britannica.com

Fantastic 10 plus minute montage with a plethora of pictures.

Short montage of videos and pictures made by a young boy in tenth grade.

This last one was made by a history teacher. I really liked the added commentary.

Awesome work Jenn!

I have always had a great deal of respect for my parents' generation. Not so much when I was younger, but now that I've experienced more of the world, you have to admire them for their tenacity.

My mom was born in 1922. She was 7 years old when the Great Depression hit. She really didn't know any different. She always made due with very little. Grandma and Grandpa both worked menial jobs trying to scrape together a living. Same with Dad's family (he was born in 1924). Actually, my grandparents never really quit that sort of super frugal, very careful, somber, but joyful lifestyle.

When I consider my problems today - I have none compared to my parents and grandparents. I am sometimes ashamed of what I consider a problem - what color should the next new car be? When we eat out, do I want steak or the lobster? My parents never got to eat out! And the fare was boiled potatos with white gravy (we always called it milk gravy). It's the sort of poverty food I grew up on - and still love due to it's residual memories for me. It is really pretty bland unless you spice it up with some ground beef (1/2 pound will feed 6 easily) and lots of salt and pepper.

Watching these brings me to tears. We are so blessed and hardly know it.
